Yesterday's dinner had me pulling out my handy dandy crock pot for it's almost-fall debut. It's been pretty chilly here the past few day, although I already had this new recipe on my menu for this week...It's basically a tomato based meat sauce for pasta. It was incredibly easy, although I did make a few additions of herbs and garlic powder (one of my favorites). I found the recipe online, as usual, at myrecipes.com. The original photo is much prettier, but I attached a couple of my own, just so you could see my end result. I only used 1 pound of ground beef, as it's just me and the hubby, and only used 1 can of crushed tomatoes. I found that I needed about 3 teaspoons of salt to cut the tart, tomato flavor and I added thyme, parsley, and garlic powder for some added flavor. The general consensus was that the finished product was rather delicious - I added parmesan cheese on mine but hubby enjoyed it plain. Overall, I think I would make this again, if for no other reason than it's super simple and can cook by itself on low for 8 hours if need be...
And for desert, hubby and I made a pit stop to our favorite cupcakery in Rochester, Get Caked. They are a local bakery and make delicious cupcakes, cookies, and cakes. I had their Raspberry Lemonade cupcake for desert last night, and their Pumpkin Spice cupcake for breakfast today...yes I had a cupcake for breakfast, why not??
If any of my readers are local Rochesterians, or might be coming through the area, PLEASE PLEASE make time to stop at the Village Gate and visit Get Caked. They are an amazing bakery that specializes in a large selection of vegan delights. I'm working on trying all their cupcakes, but have only made it through about 1/6 of the menu so far. Their cookies are soft and delicious as well. Check out www.getcakedroc.com and then take a drive on over to get a cupcake!! Yumm!!!!
