I purchased a "customized" six-pack of beer from Wegmans the other day - primarily to test out a few new recipes that I found which call for beer. I needed to have a few different beers to test out and see which beer worked with which recipe. So my six-pack included two different Guiness beers as well as a Samuel Adams Summer Ale - which is the focus of this post! I have to say that as far as beer goes, I wasn't too impressed with the taste of this Summer Ale. I'm really not a beer drinker anyway, and the taste I had of this Sam Adams beer didn't convince me to go out and buy a bunch more. So I decided to use this one to make a loaf of Honey Beer Bread, which turned out fantastic!! I really enjoyed it, although I think the hubby didn't really care for the wheaty taste of the bread. I thought that the bread really had a nice balance of wheat flavor and a slight hint of honey, but that's just me...I usually like what I make :-) You can find the link to the recipe here, as a side note, my loaf of bread baked for about 50 minutes and I rotated the loaf pan halfway through baking.
My bread mix turned out very thick, so I added just a little bit of water to help loosen it up. It's really important to make sure all the ingredients are mixed well, especially the salt and the honey. Otherwise, you will get spots of sweet or salty bread!
My bread turned out beautifully! It had a nice crusty outside and the inside was soft and delicious. I love bread and this one didn't disappoint...I could have eaten it all night, but it doesn't really help my low-carb diet... I plan on trying a few other recipes using beer, so stay tuned!!

MmmMMm.. Bread! This looks so awesome, and if it wasn´t for me getting ready for bikini season :-/ I´d definitely try soon! But one day, I simply have to try making it!
ReplyDeleteI´m trying to cut back on the carbs, just for a couple of weeks, but it´s hard. I´ve decided to have some whole wheat bread for breakfast, but then keep the rest of the day pretty low-carb.. how do you do it?? It´s so difficult!
