Amélie Shares: Dog Toys for Rough & Tumble Pups

Our little Amélie is quite the destroyer of toys...She eats rope toys, tears apart anything stuffed, and generally can't keep a toy for more than a week.  Thankfully, after much time, effort, and money spent, we finally have a small collection of toys that prove to be quite durable and provide some much needed Corgi entertainment!  For any dog owners (or dog lovers!) out there, here are three of Ami's favorites to check out:

The "Bob-a-lot":

We found this at a small specialty pet store, but it may be available elsewhere (I know you can get it online).  Ami spent 4 days getting used to the "bobbing" motion (it's a little scary, ok??), but she now she chases it around.  It almost seems like she has more fun when there's no food in it than when it's filled up!  We chose the large size for Amélie... this toy is a good way for her to use her paws, nose, and brain to get some tasty food.

Nylabone "DuraChew":

These are brilliant!  For  being only 25 pounds, Ami is definitely a powerful chewer!  She likes to gnaw on her toys for hours it seems, so the Nylabone DuraChews are great for her.  We have both the tug toy and a bone that is supposed to help her teeth stay clean (we'll see about that).  She loves to whip around her tug toy so we can't grab it!  Be aware that these toys are rather heavy and made from hard material, watch out that they don't get dropped on your feet by your loving dog...

The Dog Puzzle:

We came across a dog puzzle and bought it to see how smart Ami really is (I'm kidding - she's brilliant!).  She has to move the puzzle pieces to get to her treats.  It was kind of crazy how fast Ami learned to do the puzzle, so we don't use it very often, just once in awhile to mix things up.  It only takes her a minute to get all the treats out, but it's fun to watch her do it.  The puzzle we bought is similar to the one shown below, but also has some sliding doors that hide treats.  If you have the time/patience to teach your dog to do a puzzle, I would highly recommend getting one.

So there are three of Amélie's favorite toys.  What are your pup's favorites?  Ami's always open to suggestions  :-)

Happy Playing!!

  1. my dog loved teddybears, but most of them were torn up pretty fast, until I bought an official Disney winnie the pooh teddy bear, and it has lasted for years. Turns out, the teddy bears that I bought in the animal shops were crap, but if I went to a regular toystore and bought the disney teddybears, they`re of much better quality. just a heads up if there`s other teddybear gnawing dog-owners out there:-)

  2. Ami chews toys, stuffed animals, my water bottles...yea she's still growing out of that puppy stage, obviously. I hadn't thought of looking outside of a pet store though, so I'll have to keep my eyes peeled..
